9. Ultrafast thermodynamics at the nanoscale:

Nanoscale heat transfer is investigated on its relevant time- and length-scale (10s of fs to ns, um to nm) using all-optical time-resolved techniques. The activity focuses on the fabrication of model systems based on metallic nanostructures fabricated on a dielectric substrate. Unveiling the mechanisms ruling thermal transport at the nano-scale is crucial for the development of new thermoelectric materials for energy harvesting via dissipated heat recovery as well as of thermal management strategies to enhance heat dissipation in electronic circuits.
