5. Strain-engineering for photonics: Contact person: Alessandro Pitanti Our research activity focuses on the control of quantum states of electrons in two-dimensional material by a proper engineering of strain profiles. Tri-axial strain is known to have an effect equivalent to a real magnetic field and could be exploited to create optically active transitions. Various approaches will be explored, going from passive straining schemes to MEMS platforms for tunable strain.
