Biographical sketch

2003. PhD in Physics from the University of Milan with a thesis on nanostructured carbon films studied with microscopy and spectroscopy techniques.
2003 – 2008. Post-Doc fellow in advanced transmission electron microscopy (TEM / STEM) and EELS spectroscopy, at CEMES (CNRS) in Toulouse (France) and EMAT at the University of Antwerp (Belgium).
2008 – 2011. Scientist at the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Genova, involved in the setup of an advanced electron microscopy laboratory, including the first microscope in Italy with image aberration correction.
From 2012. Researcher at CNR. G.B. has great experience in high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning (STEM) microscopy techniques, combined with electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS), both theoretically and experimentally, and applied in particular to the study of nanostructured materials. G.B. is co-author of more than 100 scientific papers.
