Title: Chiral metasurface optomechanics

Abstract: Chirality is an ubiquitous concept of deep significance in physics, chemistry and biology; it deserves appeal both for its fundamental essence and in view of applications (i.e., drug development). Manipulation of electromagnetic chirality can be accomplished by specifically designed photonic structures, allowing for efficient chiral polarization filtering and chiral near-field generation. In this talk I will show the design of a dielectric, low-loss chiral metasurface, whose optical chirality can be modulated at a speed outperforming ordinary liquid crystal technology by means of a mechanical effect. Conversely, the mechanical resonance is affected by the chirality of light, with potential applications in polarimetry. I will conclude with an outline on the synthesis of arbitrary dynamical polarization transformers.
