Research interests
His research activities are mainly focused on quantitative transmission electron microscopy by HRTEM, STEM-HAADF and EELS techniques and the realization/application of software tools for the numerical calculation of the interaction processes between the electron beam and a crystal.
Biographical sketch
Enzo Rotunno was born in 1986. He graduated magna cum laude in Material Science at the University of Parma in 2010 and obtained his PhD degree in material science from the same institution in 2014 with his thesis entitled “Advanced analytical transmission electron microscopy methodologies for the study of the chemical and physical properties of semiconducting nanostructures”.
He then continued his research activities in postdoctoral positions at the Italian National Research Council.
During his career he achieved high competence in the field of Transmission Electron Microscopy mastering the main electron imaging, diffraction and spectroscopic techniques.
His main research interest is the study of materials through the technique commonly called Z-contrast imaging, i.e. the High Angle Annular Dark Field Scanning Transmission Electron Microscopy (HAADF STEM). He also masters the main numerical algorithms (Bloch Waves and Multislice) for the simulation of the image contrast.
