Biographical sketch
Marco Affronte is Full Professor of Physics at University of Modena (I) and team leader at the Institute of NanoScience S3 of CNR in Italy. After graduating in Physics (Laurea with marks and honors at University of Florence I, 1987), he obtained his Ph.D. at EPFL (CH) in 1991 and worked at CNRS in Grenoble (F) in 1992–93. Since 1994 he is at University of Modena where he set up and run a laboratory for low temperature experiments.
His background is on solid state physics and his skills are in preparation of experiments under extreme conditions. He worked on superconductivity, electronic transport in granular and semiconducting materials, molecular magnetism, development of protocols for deposition of molecules on surfaces and fabrication of nano-devices.
M. Affronte is was/is team leader of several national and European projects, he coordinate the EU FP7-ICT FET Open project “MolSpinQIP”, FET Proactive "MoQuaS", now collaborating at H2020 FET "Supergalax". He is project reviewer and member in several National, EU and international panels and member of scientific panels of National and International Conferences, including, among others, FET11 (Budapest, 2011).
M. Affronte is author of more than 200 scientific articles, with more than 5000 citations and he made several oral presentations at international conferences and also to general public. He also contributed to scientific articles in newspapers with interviews.
