FAR2017-2019 UNIMORE Multiple Exciton Generation

Research interests

His research activity has focused on the theory of low-dimensional systems, in particular the structural, electronic and optical properties of metal and semiconductor surface and interfaces. In recent years the central topic of his research has been the investigation of the structural, electronic and optical properties of nanostructures. This work has been done in close collaboration with leading experimental and theoretical groups in the field within a large number of national and international research projects. He is actually leading the research group on low-dimensional systems and nanostructures (>10 members, www.nanomodelling.unimore.it). He has supervised more than 10 PhD thesis and more than 20 master thesis. He has obtained a large numbers (>30, several as co-ordinator)national and international research grants (PRIN 1997, 1999, 2002, 2005, 2007; CNR, INFM-PRA, Bilateral Projects MAE; Vigoni Projects, Galileo Projects, Università Italo-Francese, HPC, UE V, VI e VII framework). He has participated to the organization of a large numbers (>30) conferences (several as chairman) and he has presented a large numbers of invited talks (>50) at national and international conferences and in national and international research groups.He has published more than 200 articles, several review articles and chapter of books. He is co-editor of two books on low-dimensional silicon structures and is author (with L. Pavesi e F. Priolo) of the book "Light Emitting Silicon for Microphotonics", Springer Verlag, Berlin 2003 and (with V. N. Borisenko) of the book "What is What in the Nanoworld",Wiley-VCH, Weinheim, first edition 2004, second edition 2008, third edition 2012. Since long time is also active regarding the link between science and society. He published 2019 "L'inganno di Mesmer e la commissione Franklin-Lavoisier" (Meltemi edizioni) on the debate on animal magnetism, 2012 "L'universo ? fatto di storie non solo di atomi" (Neri Pozza editore) on scientific misconduct and 2013 "Non ho nulla da rimproverarmi. 1911 Stoccolma e dintorni" (Scienzaexpress), a theater piece, several times on stage,in particular 2011 at the Festival della Scienza", Genova.

Biographical sketch

Stefano Ossicini (born in Rome 1952) is Full Professor of Experimental Physics at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (Italy). After graduating (1976) in physics at the University of Rome "La Sapienza" he was active as post-doctoral associate and assistant at the Department of Physics of the University of Roma "La Sapienza", at the Department of Theoretical Physics of the Freie Universitaet in Berlin (Germany)from 1978 to 1982, at the Department of Physics of the University of Calabria from 1982 to 1984. From 1984 to 1988 researcher in matter physics at the Department of Physics of the University of Modena. From 1988 to 2001 Associated Professor at the Department of Physics, University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. From 2001 Full Professor at the Department of Science and Methods of Engineering in Reggio Emilia of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. From 2004 to 2006 coordinator of the PhD in Physics and from 2006 to 2010 dean of the PhD School in Nano and Physical Sciences of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. From 2007 to 2010 vice dean of the faculty of Engineering II of the university of Modena and Reggio Emilia and from 2010 to 2012 Director of the Interdipartimental Center "En&Tech" on active and passive energy saving. From 2012 to 2016 Member of the Administrative Council of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia
